When Seoul pulls that off, it's a global city.
Pearls of witticism from 'Bo the Blogger: Kushibo's Korea blog... Kushibo-e Kibun... Now with Less kimchi, more nunchi. Random thoughts and commentary (and indiscernibly opaque humor) about selected social, political, economic, and health-related issues of the day affecting "foreans," Koreans, Korea and East Asia, along with the US, especially Hawaii, Orange County and the rest of California, plus anything else that is deemed worthy of discussion. Forza Corea!
That's pretty cheap. Was it any good?
ReplyDeleteIt's good enough for me to go back there once or twice a month.
ReplyDeleteIt's always pretty crowded. If you're ever in town, 형님, we'll do lunch.
Kushibo,
ReplyDeleteAm I actually older than you?! Darn, I feel really old now :)
Unfortunately I won't have occasion to head to Hawaii anytime soon. One of my closest college friends used to live there for a while, but he's no longer there, and I always put off that visit while he's there.
Unfortunately, he told me after he left the island that his girlfriend was close to 한성주, when the latter was going to journalism school there.

Don't know. I'm a Gen-Xer, which you might be as well. You've been published in the NYT, so that — professionally, at least — makes you my 선생님 even if not necessarily my 형님.
And really it's all about deciding who will pay.

There are some beautiful places in Hawaii (though most of them are off Oahu), so it is a place everybody should go at least once.

That sounds like Gen-Xer-range age.
Wait a minute; there was actually a question regarding whether I am a generation X-er?! :)
ReplyDeleteGood grief! According to Wikipedia (not reliable, I know but semi-useful for this type of things), the term encompasses those born from 1961 to 1983. So you thought there might be a possibility that I was 47/48 or older?! For the record, I am only in my mid-30s, and I suspect that's right where you are, too.
I think people in the ex-pat Korea Blogosphere get the erroneous impression that I am a lot older, because they erroneously think I am some type of a Jurassic conservative who march under the Jo-seon Sa-dae-bu banner. But as I have pointed out already at Ask a Korean! Blog, my politics are too nuanced to simplify essentially on the bases of the fact that I abhor DJ/Roh and South Korea's lunatic Left that scaffolded them. There is indeed a wide terrain between extremists on both side of the political divide.
I don't know about other people, but I get the impression that you are older because you sound wiser, more logical, and more mature than most of the rest of the over-25 crowd.
ReplyDeleteWell, since "late 20s" is the new "late teens," let's just say the over-30 crowd.
Won Joon Choe's english is too good to be a traditional ajossi. I always thought he was in his 40's also, and at least educated in America.
ReplyDeleteIt's disappointing to know that he's just a plain vanilla gyopo like me... :(
