South Korea trounces Taiwan 9-0

Some Taiwnese are still bitter at South Korea for switching diplomatic ties from Taipei to Beijing. South Korea had been an ideological comrade-in-arms to the Republic of China on Taiwan, and this was seen as a betrayal. 

To add insult to injury, over a decade later, South Korea shut out Taiwan in the 2009 World Baseball Classic. At left you see coach Ryu Loong-il (류웅일? ryu ung•il) congratulating Jeong Keun-woo (정근우; chŏng kŭnu).

One note about silly baseball naming conventions: The World Series is not really a world series, and the World Baseball Classic has a long way to go before it's a classic. Just sayin' is all.
